It wouldn't even be close, if we hadn't given away our coal severance tax. Appy and Pound bring far more.

Sorta one of those simple facts, like, "Appy and Pound have already lost their schools". After the cash loss during the last couple of years, Wise can't really afford new schools. However, if the fine folks from BSG want to come up with an extra million in tax dollars , from their community, I'm all for you paying it.
If the BOS and SB went completely by whats financially best for the county...then Appy and Pound would be closing and that would be the end of it.
But we all know thats not whats best...don't we.

Beats me- sounds a lot like "As long as BSG keeps a school, I'm good with whatever happens to anyone else". And remember, PV and JJK are as rundown as anyplace else. The classrooms are about 3/5 of the size needed for education today. That was the result of one of the many studies used as grounds for closing all schools and building new ones. Oh, and the heating and a/c - it isn't up to par with what folks want their kids in. Just updating JJK and PV heating/cooling systems would cost millions.
Re: Board of Supervisors Tonite?
am i seriously the only person from appalachia that wanted consolidation? i didnt want it like this but ****, just thinking of all the mess that will be cleared up by the time my little sister gets there is payment enough for me. I cant wait to see how much better these kids get to do than i did in school. I had to pay MECC for some of the classes that they will be getting for free (if everything works out, it wont be college credit of course but an intro class is better than nothing) I really dont want people having to drive up the four lane on those foggy days but oh well, something had to give eventually.
Re: Board of Supervisors Tonite?
do you think all this mess could be put into a movie and made into a comedy?

With the highest poverty rates, lowest income levels, and complete lack of commercial development, I would be surprised that these two communities lead in this area.

I understand...my original point is this...
In 2010, if you look at the residents and the businesses who are responsible for generating tax revenue, which is what funds our schools, some communities contribute a lot more than others. Basically, in my opinion, communities should get what they pay for.

Why is everyone so worried about the buses going up and down the four lane? The shop buses do it every day. The handicapped buses do it every day. I don't know of any accidents that have happened with buses since the four lane has been built. I would be a lot more concerened about my child riding the bus or driving between Appalachia and Norton and having to deal with all the coal trucks.
